![]() However, “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” is the best sequel in the franchise.ĭon’t get me wrong, “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” is not in the same ballpark as Curse of the Black Pear. And after seeing Dead Men Tell No Tales, I still say Curse of the Black Pearl is the best pirates movie. I think everyone will agree that the first film, Curse of the Black Pearl, was the best entry in the series. “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” is the fifth installment of Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise that began in 2003. Some of the directions the filmmakers take Barbosa feel rushed, and not as rewarding as they should have been, but his subplot is arguably the best in the film. Meanwhile, Geoffrey Rush returned as Captain Hector Barbosa, and he managed to add some new layers to his character. But to his credit, he steals most the scenes he’s in. But the script didn’t give Bardem too much room to explore which is a shame. He’s both creepy and menacing, and full of charm. Javier Bardem as Salazar was great casting. I thought Kaya Scodelario did well with the humor and the action scenes, and she was one of the film’s biggest highlights to be honest. In both cases I knew what the character’s motivations were, and why they embarked on their quests. This is their movie the same way the first movie belonged to Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley. And the sad thing is, that’s all he does in this movie. But it appears our favorite pirate has turned into a full-blown alcoholic after five movies. ![]() When it comes to the cast, you already know what you’re going to get from Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack. I can see using the gag once, maybe twice, but that would have been more than enough. Almost every character she meets calls her a witch. Also, I get that people back then would have though Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario) was a witch, but the joke got old really fast. The script is probably partially t blame for some of the timing issues, because had the bank sequence been funny, it wouldn’t have felt as long as it did. That was surprising, considering Dead Men Tell No Tales has the shortest running time out of the five movies in the franchise. There were parts in this movie where nothing happens expect a lot of talking, and because of that, the movie drags. Once the main plot kicked in, it was with a never-ending bank heist that felt more like a skit than an action sequence. With basically two prologues, it took forever for the main action to start. On at least three occasions I asked myself how much time was left. My biggest issue with Dead Men Tell No Tales was the length of the movie. But whether this movie will leave any lasting impression on the audience, is a different question. Is Dead Men Tell No Tales better than the other sequels? God yes, much better tha Pirates 2-4. Is “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” a great movie? Hells no. Henry springs Sparrow from prison, and along with astronomer and horologist Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario), sets sail with Jack’s old crew in search of the Trident of Poseidon – an object with the power to break all curses of the sea – so they can stop Salazar from his reign of terror on the waters. Meanwhile, British Royal Navy member Henry (Brenton Thwaites) is on a mission of his own, and requires Jack’s pirate skills. Things are about to get worse for Jack however, when one of his old foes – Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem) – escapes the Devil’s Triangle and is ready to embark on a quest to exact revenge on Jack for cursing him and his men. And when the latest heist leaves Jack’s crew with nothing, the once great pirate finds himself without a cre, or a ship. Much like Johnny Depp’s career, Captain Jack Sparrow’s best years are behind him.
